NISPA

About
NISPA, Network of Independent School Parent’s Association of Ontario, is an organization based in the Greater Toronto Area that facilitates networking and idea sharing for members of Parent Associations and Guilds can use to work more effectively in their own school environment and grow as a collective.

Design Challenges
Rebranded “Interguild” to “NISPA” and decided on the final acronym. As the name was being finalized, I guided the board through research and voted on suggestions for consensus.

As the Graphic Designer of this project, I wanted to create a system that broke away from the classic muted aesthetic that is common and expected in this category. It was important that NISPA didn’t blend into the mix of “school activities.” As an initiative that champions and celebrates inclusiveness, I wanted the style to stand out as a unique offering.

Another aspect I had to keep in mind during this phase was how would this system work with a variety of applications and users. I knew we needed to have an expansive color palette, type system, and imagery that would be flexible and easily replicable on a regular basis.

Design Solutions
Inspired by the trillium flower of Ontario, the NISPA icon was designed to represent a round table of parents from various schools. The font is clean, modern and legible that can be easily used on various applications.

For added flexibility, I incorporated secondary colors that are less saturated versions of the primary palette. When creating the wordmark, I wanted a neutral typeface that highlights the community’s inclusive nature, ultimately choosing Avenir for its versatility.
